This month Birchbox drew it’s inspiration from the concept of a finishing school, but instead of needlepoint and high society, their redefinition of a modern finishing school is ‘less pomp, more polish.’ I can support that, especially when they team up with Ann Taylor to design their boxes and throw in a coupon for shopping Ann Taylor online. After they released their site redesign, I tweaked my preferences, so with each new box I’m curious to see how it stacks up to previous boxes. Again, I received five items and I wonder if this is a new trend.
Here’s what I received:
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave in Product 2 oz: $10.00
Classic Tan Towel: $2.40
Dr. Jart Premium BB Cream: $4.42
Model Co. Party Proof Matte Lipstick in Dusk til Dawn: $8.00
BB Creams are usually a fail for me. I have very fair skin, which is a nice way of saying I’m pale and pasty. Light/medium BB Creams are usually too dark. Since I was determined to give this a whirl, I pulled out the beauty blender and gave Dr. Jart’s a try. It looked perfect – this was a total win! Just finding a BB Cream with 45 SPF that looks fab makes this entire box a score.
These Jasmine Seven towelettes are ‘fresh feet’ scented. Apparently, fresh feet smell like peppermint. I know people with atomic-stinky-feet, so I’m sure this would be perfect for them. I’d like to think I’m not in that category. Feet aside, they’re just nice and minty towelettes and for $9.99 you can get three packs of ten, which isn’t a bad price. I’d take them camping, to the gym, or wherever you might need some minty freshness – not judging.
Tan Towel – no. This is going into the ever-growing pile of self-tanning products. I think I already have four Tan Towels stacked up somewhere. One day I’m just going to randomly gift them. I’m not sure if that’s considered a blessing.
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-In is supposed to spritz into hair. I’m not sure if I got a defective bottle. Mine shot out like a squirt gun which sprayed my hair unevenly. I tousled it to style, which looked fine, but it dried crusty. I don't know if that’s the desired effect or if I just had too much product on because of a spritzing mishap. I’m just a poor girl from the Midwest. I never thought I’d be a victim of a spritzing mishap.
I was really happy that the Model Co. Party Proof Lipstick is in a wearable color. Sometimes I feel like I get sent the ugliest lipsticks on the planet and wonder what I did to deserve the hellish shades. This pretty mauvish berry is pleasantly scented and looks nice on. I really liked that felt soft on my lips like a gloss. The brand professes that it will last for hours, so I put it to the test. Even without eating, it lasted no more than two hours. You decide if that’s ‘long lasting.’
I ended up really liking the box, it grew on me. The BB Cream and lipstick were totally fab. I’m leaning towards buying a full-size of the BB Cream. There’s a few other things on my Birchbox wish list, so I’m thinking hard about spending $85 and getting the free Ann Taylor scarf with coupon code: ANNTAYLOR – a $59.50 value and only available while supplies last.
